The argylls were given the Freedom of Dumbarton and today they exercised that right by marching through the town

The Argylls set off slightly later than planned. The start point was Levengrove park, marching along the banks of the river Leven, towards the old bridge. Turning right, over the bridge, they headed for Dumbarton high street, where they were met by hundreds of wellwishers lining both sides of the road. About midway along the high street they came to a halt, presented arms to the dignitaries and opened ranks for inspection.
It was a cold day but the Argylls put on a good show and the crowds responded by clapping to the music( certainly keeps the hands warm) as well as cheering and applauding the troops.
After the inspection they set off again towards Dumbarton Burgh Halls for a reception.
It's funny, after 36 years, hearing the pipeband starting up and the "by the left...." still touches the hair on the back of my neck
